Global Logistics Meeting - Rome

The Global Logistics Cluster Information Management training will take place in Rome on 1-3 December from 8:30 to 17:30. 

Please find information about access to WFP HQ below, including how to reach it as well as suggested hotels in walking distance to WFP or via direct train to WFP.

Access to WFP HQ:

Please arrive at the WFP HQ Security Desk about 30 minutes before the meeting to get your Visitor pass and access to the building. WFP Security will be informed about your arrival. Please bring ID (Passport, drivers licence) that you will need to leave at the security gate. You will be provided with a Visitor Pass for the day which must be displayed at all times.

Once you have your pass, please ask security to call Patrizia Boschini (patrizia.boschini@wfp.org), phone: +39 06 6513- 3185 or Mirko Orlandi (mirko.orlandi@wfp.org), phone: +39 06 6513-2635 to meet you at the security office and guide you to the Meeting room.

For participants from WFP

Expenses/ DSA

  • DSA: WFP participants should receive Half Board (HB) DSA from the Country Office/ SO budget payable during the training period.
  • Participants are responsible for all extra expenses at the hotel such as telephone bills, room service, laundry and beverages at the time of check-out.
  • Accommodation and two meals/day (breakfast and lunch) will be provided for each participant by the Global Logistics Cluster.
  • Ms. Patrizia Boschini (patrizia.boschini@wfp.org) is the HQ financial focal point for DSA payment. Please refer to her shall you encounter any query regarding DSA calculation.

Visa, invitation letters and security clearances

  • It is the responsibility of each participant and their nominating organisation to obtain a visa for Italy. Participants requiring an invitation letter should submit a scanned copy of the national passport as well as the full title to Mirko Orlandi (mirko.orlandi@wfp.org).
  • Valid UN LP holders from WFP do not require a visa to enter Italy for up to 90 days. For those travelling with a UN LP, please remember to bring also your national passport when travelling to Italy.
  • Participants with a UN LP must hold a return ticket and must arrive directly to Italy without any stopover in another Schengen-area country (except for France, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany).
  • The UNLP must be valid for 3 months from the date of entry, the traveller must have a valid national passport and a Memo signed by supervisor with mission details.
  • Security clearance for UN staff is recommended through the UN DSS website: https://dss.un.org/dssweb

From Fiumicino airport (FCO, Leonardo da Vinci) to WFP HQ

Taxi
A Taxi ride from the taxi stand at the airport to WFP HQ is charged at a fixed rate of 30 EUR and takes approximately 10 minutes.

Local Train
The train takes about 17 minutes and costs 8 EUR. When arriving at the airport, follow the train signs to the station ‘Rome Fiumicino’. To get to WFP, take the local train (FR1 line; direction Fara Sabina - Montelibretti) to Muratella Station (4 Stations; approximately 17 minutes).
Trains leave from 06:27 to 21:27 every 15 minutes (at 12, 27, 42 and 57), from 21:27 to 23:27 every 30 minutes. One- way tickets cost 8 EUR and have to be purchased in advance at the vending machine or at the ticket office in front of the platform. Tickets must be stamped at the machine in the station before boarding the train.

Muratella train station to WFP HQ

It is a 5 minute walk from Muratella station to WFP HQ. Leave the train and walk through the tunnel under the tracks to the other side of the station. Turn right and walk for about 100 meters until you see WFP sign on your left indicating a pathway to WFP. At the end of this path turn right again until you reach the entrance of WFP HQ.

From the city center – WFP HQ

Local train
Trains leave from Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana and Tiburtina to Muratella station. From Muratella station to WFP is a 5 minute walk (for directions, please read above). The train is called FL1.
‘Trastevere station’ is connected with the tram line n.8, which runs along Viale Trastevere to piazza Venezia). ‘Ostiense Station’ is connected with metro line B and high-speed Italo trains to Florence and points north), and ‘Tuscolana’, and ‘Tiburtina’ station are connected with metro line B.

Metro
The closest metro station to WFP is ‘EUR Magliana’ on Metro B line. From the station there are free shuttle bus services in the morning from 07:25 to 09:10 and in the afternoon from 16:30 to 19:00.
The pick-up point is on the street above the EUR Magliana metro station.
To reach the bus exit the station, cross the parking lot and look for pedestrian tunnel. Walk through the tunnel. After climbing stairs at the other end, walk straight ahead about 20 meters. No sign marks the stop, but wait on the sidewalk. Numerous commuter buses stop here, so you will see others waiting – but only the bus marked SARACINI takes you to WFP.

From WFP to Fiumicino airport (FCO, Leonardo da Vinci)

Local Train
The train station at WFP HQ is called Muratella station. From there the train to the airport takes about 17 minutes and costs 8 EUR. Please note that no tickets are sold at Muratella station. You will need to buy your tickets online or buy a return ticket when leaving Fiumicino airport.
To get to WFP take the local train (FR1 line; direction Fiumicino Aeroporto; 4 Stations; approximately 17 minutes). Trains leave 06:00 every 15 minutes (at 00, 15, 30, 45), until 20:00 and then every 30 minutes until 22:30.

General information on public transportation

Metro
The Metro Network in Rome consists of three lines, Metro A (red), Metro B (blue) which cross at Termini Central Station, plus the new green line, Metro C, which serves the south–east suburbs of the city.
- Metro: from 5:30am until 11.30pm every day (until 0:30am on Sat.). Frequency: 7-10 minutes.

Tram
There are six tram routes running in Rome. The two main tram lines are line no. 8 (Casaletto- Trastevere – Piazza Venezia) and line no. 3 (Stazione Trastevere – Circo Massimo – Colosseo – San Giovanni).
- Tram: from 5:30am until 11.30pm from Sunday to Thursday (until 1:30am on Fri. and Sat.). Frequency: 10-12 minutes.

Busses
The main terminal stations are Termini (Piazza dei Cinquecento) and Piazza Venezia. From these two piazzas buses leave for all directions every 30 minutes. Night bus stops are marked with an owl.
When your bus approaches the bus stop, hold out your hand to signify the driver you want him to stop.
- Bus: from 5:30am till midnight. Night bus lines - marked with an owl - run from 00:30am to 5:30am

Tickets
Public transportation tickets must be purchased in advance from tabacco shops, newsstands, coffee bars; or, at vending machines at metro and major bus stops. They are valid for metro, tram, buses and local trains. Prices are as follows:
- Single ticket - valid for 100 min: 1.50 EUR, Daily ticket: 6.00 EUR, Three-day ticket: 16.50 EUR, Weekly ticket: 24.00 EUR.
- Please note that no tickets are sold at Muratella station
