WFP Roads SO reports that it will engage its contractors, with assistance of WFP Resident Engineers, to assist with the repair of the Juba bridge.
A specialist crane is scheduled to arrive this week in Juba to assist in removing the trucks still hanging from the bridge and the damaged portion of the bridge itself. This should render the second span of the bridge more secure. WFP (Roads Special Operations) reports that they have not yet been requested by the Government of South Sudan to assist with repairs to the bridge itself.
The current load estimate for the remaining part of the bridge is 10-15 metric tons. Current estimates are that bridge repairs should be completed by April 2007. Assessments on the status of the bridge are to take place soon in order to ascertain the exact status of the remaining span in terms of time, load, and safety
