Overview of rates on 8 major routes related to the post election crisis.
This overview of rates is based on the input of 7 humanitarian organisations using various (>7) Kenyan transporters. Provided are the min., max. and average rates per route.
General analysis shows that:
- Some organisations pay the highest MT/Km rate on the Nairobi-Nakuru route (relative to the other routes).
- Mombasa-Nairobi and Mombasa-Malaba have (as can be expected) the lowest MT/Km rates. However some organisations pay considerably more as others; making these two routes candidates for potential costs savings.
- In general the larger volumes (35MT & 40ft containers) show big disparities between min. & max. rates on the longer routes. This means as well there is potential for costs savings in case your organisation is paying towards the maximum rate.
