- Attacks on the transport infrastructure in and around Mogadishu continue. The airport was shelled again last Thursday.

The first case of pirating in nine months was reported on Sunday, 25 February, when a WFP-contracted ship was hijacked empty on its way back from Puntland to Mombasa.

Ambushes and other security incidents also continue to be reported on the road between Mogadishu and Johwar. Travel on that road is not advised.
KENYA/SOMALIA BORDER UPDATE

WFP-contracted trucks have started crossing from El Wak/Somalia into El Wak/Kenya for reloading without any reported problems.

CARE is in the process of organising transport from Mandera into Somalia. No crossing has taken place yet. Trucks are expected to be finished loading at the end of the week when they plan to cross. According to CARE, local authorities have not indicated any objections in principle to border crossing. However, a security meeting scheduled for tomorrow will discuss modalities of planned crossing.
