As expected, the onset of seasonal rains have started to affect traffic/access in anticipated areas. A WFP-food convoy of 35 trucks destined for Afmado and Hagar is now delayed for four days on the Jilib-Buale road - which is experiencing localized flooding. This convoy could not proceed to its destination before the start of the rains due to the TFG holding up the convoy at Jilib. Some traffic delays are also reported from Hargeisa. Otherwise, despite rain all across Somalia, movement continues.
Discharge at Kismayo, Merka, and Mogadishu, Bossaso and Berbera ports continues as well. The commercial dispute over tariffs has finally been resolved at Mogadisu port. Therefore commercial vessels intended to collect consignments in Kenya can finally discharge at Mogadishu and proceed to Mombasa for cargo pick-up. No other security incidents were reported from Mogadishu port over the reporting period.
Over this past week, a number of flight delays have been reported from Somalia with passengers not having cash on them to pay for visa, transit, and departure fees. Passengers are kindly requested to carry with them sufficient cash to pay for those fees, and thus prevent flight delays.
