Detailed Road Assessment by UNJLC & UNICEF
Distance: N/A
Drive Time: N/A
Assessment: This assessment was done in coordination with UNICEF, who were doing a surveys of local schools.
The main road is only negotiable by 4x4 as far as Riali, at which point it becomes accessible to 2 wheel drive vehicles and smaller trucks (information provided by local NGO Bilandi which has been trucking in Riali).
From Ralia the surface is predominantly macadam. This is broken in areas and eroded at the edges but generally passable.
The road emerges at Ghori where it runs along the edge of the Neelum as a quality unsurfaced route.
Conclusion:
The route through to Rajkot is open to surface transportation, though it remains 4WD only at the higher points. Bilandi (LNGO) are a good English speaking resource for information in the area.
