Liberia has four main ports: Monrovia, Buchanan, Greenville, and Harper. However, of these four, only Monrovia has the handling facilities necessary for humanitarian and commercial usage.
Buchanan, Greenville and Harper ports are being used primarily for the logging trade.
On 2 February, the Rotterdam presented soundings for the Freeport of Monrovia to the National Port Authority (NPA). Partial soundings for the ports of Greenville and Harper were also presented, and will be completed soon.
The Rotterdam will be completing its contract on 16 February 2004. The vessel, chartered by UNMIL, arrived in Monrovia on 17 November 2003.
