Summary
On 27 August 2026, the Logistics Sector coordination meeting brought together humanitarian partners to discuss access constraints, logistics operations, preparedness measures, and emerging opportunities to support humanitarian response efforts across northeast Nigeria. UNOCHA-led CMCoord highlighted the continued inaccessibility of the Rann route for heavy trucks, prompting partners to explore alternative routes through Cameroon and Gajibo and utilize smaller transport modalities where necessary. Recent cargo movements to Monguno, Damasak, Ngala, and Dikwa were noted, alongside ongoing efforts to sustain humanitarian access despite increased insecurity, fuel-related challenges, and seasonal constraints. Updates were also shared on humanitarian severity mapping activities completed in Adamawa and Yobe States, with similar mapping planned for Borno. The Logistics Sector encouraged partners to strengthen coordination with logistics and procurement teams to pre-position relief supplies ahead of peak rainy season access challenges and to clear cargo stored in common warehouses beyond the 90-day storage period to optimize storage capacity. The Sector also reiterated its continued support to the cholera response and emphasized the importance of adhering to health and safety measures to ensure the well-being of humanitarian personnel and the uninterrupted delivery of assistance. In addition, partners were encouraged to use rainy season incident information shared during the meeting to improve contingency planning and operational preparedness in hard-to-reach areas. Representatives from the UNOPS Greening Procurement Accelerator (GPA) presented an Energy-as-a-Service model aimed at helping humanitarian organizations transition from diesel-based power generation to solar energy without upfront capital investment. Partners were encouraged to submit facility information for assessment and possible inclusion in future solar deployments. During the AOB session, CARE Initiative was introduced as a new humanitarian partner supporting Nutrition, WASH, and Health interventions, including emergency logistics services and cholera response activities. The organization highlighted its transport capacity, ongoing coordination with humanitarian actors, and plans to explore emergency warehousing solutions. During the Q&A session, partners received an update on Ngala road access, with the Sector noting that recent rains had affected road conditions and that convoy movements would continue to be closely monitored in coordination with military authorities.
