Overland Customs transit Border Posts
Upon request to and authorization by the Commissioner of Customs, Customs Officers can be deployed to any border crossing of interest at the client's own cost, ie. El-Wak border crossing shared with Somalia.
Note: Due to the topography of Kenya and of its neighbouring countries, and to the limited means in controlling the borders, most border crossings become potential entry and exit points. The border crossings shared with Somalia are the most vulnerable.
At times, small and medium scale private operators use remote entry points in order to avoid Customs authorities. However, transport limitations through these border crossings do exist in the form of the road infrastructure that consists of earth roads and tracks, and the weather constraints during the rainy season.
