1. HIGHLIGHTS
- A second Logistics Cluster meeting was held today 9th May in Yangoon.
- The second Bangkok Logistics Cluster meeting will be held on the 10th May at WFP office.
2. CLUSTER ACTIVITIES UPDATES
- The Logistics Cluster Con-ops is in the finalization stage and it will be presented to cluster members, for their feedbacks and inputs, during the meeting organized for tomorrow. To date the cluster team has started negotiation with the Government of Thailand to establish a “cargo consolidation hub” or staging area in Bangkok.
- The second Bangkok Logistics Cluster meeting will take place tomorrow 10th May at WFP office in Bangkok at 11.00. During the meeting there will a short brief on Myanmar updates provided by the office in Yangoon via telephone link. In addition the draft will be presented in order to receive feedback from the cluster participants. Once compiled the written con-ops will e shared again with participants in Myanmar, Thailand ( as well as with the global participants) for final comments
- Based on first assessment and assumptions the logistics portion of the Flash Appeal has been completed and submitted to OCHA.
- The Special Operation that is the basis of the Flash Appeal includes interagency logistics and ICTs common services will also be published within the next 24 hours. A few donors have already indicated the willingness to fund common logistics services.
- A logistics Cluster meeting was held today in Yangoon. Minutes will be soon circulated.
- Due to connection and short staffing, for all communications with the Logistics Cluster please contact the cell based in Bangkok and not Myanmar.
3. AIR TRANSPORT
- A flight coming from UAE with WFP and WHO cargo arrived this morning at 7.30 in Yangoon.
- The flight coming from Bangkok for Yangoon via Dhaka had to return to Bangkok due to extreme weather conditions, on the 8th May. Today, as weather conditions improved the flight arrived in Yangoon.
- WFP content of the two flights has not been released from customs and government warehouse based on the Ministry of Social Welfare instruction.
- On the 8th May a flight coming from Brindisi arrived in Yangoon. The flight has been organized by WFP carrying relief cargo of the Italian Government to be given to Myanmar.
4. WATER TRANSPORT
- Merlin is considering using 150 foot cruiser boats for distributions. Issue with fuel availability.
5. SUPPLY CHAIN
- 7 mt of WFP HEB arrived in Yangoon from Dhaka, by commercial air freight
flight on 8th May. The cargo has been cleared and dispatched to affected
areas around Labutta. - WFP dispatched 20 mt of rice and 4 mt of HEB to Labutta. Along with this
convoy 2 wickhalls were sent and will be erected as temporary
storage/distribution centre. - UNHCR has received approval form Myanmar authorities for three 7 mt trucks crossing the border point Thailand/Maesot to Myanmar/ Myawaddy, on the 10th of May.
- It has been reported that “Total” will make fuel available: diesel and Jet A1. They can also make available an helicopter operating from Yangon two times a week (Saturdays and Tuesdays) starting from the 10th of May. The Cluster wil further investigate.
