1. HIGHLIGHTS

• The Logistics cluster in Yangon signed today the contract for the additional barges secured for inter agency use.
• The second barges rented by the logistics cluster departed today form Yangon to Labutta carrying goods for WFP and Merlin.

2. CLUSTER ACTIVITIES UPDATES

• The Dam Muang staging area set up for inter agency use by the logistics cluster in Bangkok is open and ready to receive cargo.
• The Logistics Cluster has secured the premises for a 3 months period which is the duration of the Special Operation.
• TNT in Bangkok has offered 4 x 40ft containers for the storage of sensitive items and some of these containers will be converted for cold chain use.
• All cargo arriving at the warehouse at Don Muang in Bangkok must be palletized for onward shipment. PLEASE NOTE: All wooden pallets must have a fumigation certificate.

3. AIR OPERATIONS

• Updated information on cargo flights arriving in Myanmar is being compiled on a daily basis in the air operations report and made available on the cluster webpage.

4. WATER TRANSPORT

• • The barge leased by the Cluster for inter-agency finished loading operation this afternoon and departed for Labutta carrying the following items:
            WFP: 393.75 mt of rice, 37 mt of Veg Oil, 5 mt of MRE and 14.5 mt of NFIs (3 wikhalls and 35 rolling mats/pallets)
            MERLIN: 24.3 mt of NFIs
• The logistics cluster signed today the contract for 3 additional boats/barges that will increase the cluster capacity for inland waterways transport.

5. ROAD TRANSPORT

• Km distances for Pyapon District:
         Bogale –Pyapon: 35 km
         Pyapon-Kyaik Lat: 19 km
         Kyaik Lat-Ma-ubin: 40 Km
         Ma-ubin-Yangon: 81 Km

6. LOGISTICS HUBS

• Please see below updates on the actual situation of the Logistics Hub set up for the operation:
       Mawlanyaingyun: under assessment, no handling equipment available at location
       Labutta: 2X MSUs (mobile storage unit) in place and 3 more on the way down to Labutta.
       Pathein: location identified and under negotiation
       Pyapon: location 1: 1MSU to be finalized today. Location 2: under construction
       Bogale: 2xMSUs under construction

7. NEXT LOGISTICS CLUSTER MEETING

• The next meeting of the Yangon Logistics Cluster will be held tomorrow Friday 23rd May 2008 at 1400 hrs.
