- On 4th September American Red Cross reported that:
- In the last two weeks, Haiti has been given a one-two punch from Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Hanna.
- The Haitian government is reporting that nearly 80 people are dead or missing, and almost 7,000 remain in emergency shelters. According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, approximately 650,000 people are at risk
- Many areas are simply inaccessible on the ground
- The American Red Cross is contributing $100,000 to help replenish pre-positioned relief stocks in both Haiti and Jamaica.
- On 4th September Agence France Presse (AFP) reported that the death toll from Hanna rose to 136, most of them in Gonaives, as reported by the Head of Haiti's civil protection office.
- There was no power across most of northern Haiti, largely cut off from the rest of the country by the landslides and flooding.
