On 15th October the logistics team on the ground reported that:
Weather:
- Pader: Moderate rain reported in and around Pader
Roads and Bridge:
- Water levels are still high at Komolo, Awojja and Aguu bridges. However Aguu bridge has not been closed to traffic despite the high water levels.
- It is still advisable for heavily loaded trucks to travel to Soroti via Lira town.
- Access to Katakwi from Soroti is now open to traffic.
Logistics Cluster/UNJLC:
- Construction works on Wiikhall number 4 planned for Katakwi is in progress.
- Two MI8 helicopters arrived in country today (13-Oct) and begin operations from the weekend. While priories from the user group have not changed (Medicine, Water/Sanitation, Food, Shelter/other NFIs) the first few days after the new MI8’s arrival food will be flown to inaccessible locations. A distribution plan has been created.
- Current warehouse capacity in Soroti is 850 Square meters with only 50% of the 600 square meters for NFI utilized.
- A new Air Cargo Movement Request is available after feedback was received from user. The form can be downloaded from the Logistics Cluster webpage http://www.logcluster.org/uganda-floods. The form can also be collected from the Logistics Cluster/UNHAS office in Soroti
- IOM is looking at bringing six 6wd trucks to Soroti with 8mts capacity. When not employed by IOM these trucks can be used by other organization at full cost recovery.
- The latest WFP led Logistics Cluster assessment (9th October) of the road conditions on the Soroti side of the Agu Bridge found marked signs of deterioration due to rising flood water with traffic compounding the erosion of the road surface.
- The Katakwi route is still expected to be opened soon, but there is no indication of how the continuing rains will affect the repairs
