On 9th October 2007 OCHA released a situation report. Main logistics issues as follows:
• The entire Teso sub-region risks being cut off from the rest of Uganda due to worrying conditions on the Lira-Soroti road.
• Katakwi district has been cut off overland from the rest of Teso sub-region for more than two weeks, due to an approximately one-kilometre long expanse of water that has overtaken the road at the Komolo Bridge. Those travelling to Katakwi are being ferried across the water in small boats.
• Cut roads in Dokolo and Usuku (in Amuria district). Most feeder roads are subject to travel only in 4x4 or 6x6 vehicles.
• One MI-8 helicopter is operational out of Soroti.
• 850 square metres of warehouse space is now available in three storage tents in Soroti, with two tents dedicated to NFIs and one to food. Storage will be free of charge beyond the seven-day limit until such time as the logistics cluster is fully operational. Six 6X6 trucks with 25 MT capacity contracted by WFP are available to move NFIs, when not employed by the contracting agency
On 10th October, the logistics team on the ground reported that :
- The Awoja bridge has been flooded/closed for traffic for the past 3 weeks
- The old Soroti/Mbale road that has been used to reach Soroti, has now been affected by the rising flood waters
- The road from Kapmala to Soroti via Lira is still in condition to access Soroti
Updated Transport overview Maps have been produced and uploaded on the Logistics cluster webpage: http://www.logcluster.org/uganda-floods
