UNJLC Indian Ocean has participated in a number of conferences and workshops as part of its role as a UN logistics coordination centre in the tsunami mission. Participation facilitates knowledge-sharing with humanitarian experts and professionals, governments and militaries, thus furthering recognition of UNJLC as a key logistics coordination mechanism in the realm of humanitarian assistance.

The annual MILOPS conference is a forum for discussion of the latest legal and operational issues affecting terrorism, international armed conflict and humanitarian assistance. At the 18th Annual MILOPS Conference the UNJLC Chief, Indian Ocean, presented "A Point of View on U.N. Humanitarian Interventions and Crisis Management," which focused on the role of the UN in providing protection and assistance to victims of natural disasters, state-instigated violence, terrorism and guerilla-warfare.
26 Apr 2005 - UNJLC - Bakosurtanal Geospatial Data Lesson

Bakosurtanal, Indonesia’s national mapping agency, provided digital copies of its topographical map series for Aceh in the period following the 26 Dec tsunami. Enhanced products, such as a vector road network, were derived from the Bakosurtanal base mapping under contract to WFP in early January, 2005. These products formed an important part of the base mapping used by UNJLC, HIC and other UN agencies in the months following the tsunami. UNJLC initiated Geospatial Data Lesson one- day seminar to improve awareness of the importance of the Bakosurtanal data to the UN response effort and to identify areas for improved coordination with the UN in the future.

The UNJLC Chief, Indian Ocean, at the request of the U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM), presented 'A Civil Perspective on Civil/Military Cooperation,' which included discussion of the framework in which civil and military players operate during humanitarian emergency relief operations. The presentation focused specifically on the United Nations as a civil entity, compared its role with that of militaries during relief operations and emphasized that with proper coordination, together they produce advantageous relief operation outcomes. As a coordination agency, UNJLC was highlighted as a key UN facilitator of civil and military collective logistics operations.
9 May 2005 - RSGIS Forum Spatial Data Requirements for Aceh Reconstruction Workshop, Sabang

The RSGIS Forum is an informal association of Indonesian Geomantic professionals which has taken a leading role in the dissemination of spatial data for GIS practitioners working as part of the tsunami response. UNJLC participates in RSGIS Forum activities as part of its effort to take a leading role in coordinating spatial data sharing within the tsunami relief GIS community.
16-17 May 2005 - Government of Indonesia/OCHA - United Nations National Lessons Learned Workshop, Jakarta
Attended by UNJLC Chief, Indonesia, Operations Information Head and Operations Liaison Head and staff
The workshop facilitated exchange between government authorities and humanitarian actors in order to compile, analyze and publish lessons learned from tsunami relief operations and make recommendations for initiatives in order to enhance disaster response preparedness on a regional and national level in the Asia and Pacific region. UNJLC along with other humanitarian actors was invited to participate based on its prominent role in logistics coordination in tsunami relief operations.
17 May 2005 - Round Table Discussion: “Experience and Lessons Learned from the Tsunami Relief Effort for Civilian and Military Relations,” organized by the U.S. National War College

Major General Bambang Darmono of the TNI (Indonesia Army) presented the opening remarks. The UNJLC Chief, Indian Ocean presented a general discussion on civil-military coordination while the UNJLC Chief, Indonesia spoke about UNJLC's role in civil-military liaising and logistics coordination specifically during the tsunami relief operation in Indonesia.
