Next Global Logs Cluster meeting planned for 23-24 April 2008 in Geneva
Thank you for responding to the three options given. All of the 5 respondants prefer the Geneva option, hence we will plan to hold the meeting on 23-24 April 2008 in Geneva, following the Fritz Institute's Humanitarian Logistics Conference, 21-22 April 2008. Please reserve the date, more details to follow shortly.

Kenya Logistics Cluster update
The violence in Kenya after the announcement of the presidential elections has led to the displacement of thousands of people. Therefore, the Kenya IASC Country Team met on 5 January to discuss the adoption of the cluster approach. A formalized recommendation was submitted ot the Emergency Relief Coordinator, USG Holmes.
The logistics cluster was subsequently established and two meeting were held since then. Please find the latest minutes attached. The next meeting will be 14 January, 12pm at the OCHA Regional Office, Nairobi.
A CERF appeal has been submitted for the total of USD 7million, logistics has not been included.
The Flash Appeal will be finalised by early next week, logistics will be included with coordination, air transport and storage services for the humanitarian community.

Mozambique Logistics Cluster update
Due to the recent floods, the Logistics Cluster had resumed coordination meeting. Please find the latest minutes attached. The next meeting is planned for 15 January 2008, 14pm, WFP office, Maputo.

A CERF application and WFP Special Operation are being prepared. Main components of the operation are logistics support to all humanitarian actors responding to floods emergency through establishment of coordination machanisms, potential air and barge operations.

Malawi update
The Logistics Cluster support cell is closely monitoring the situation. WFP Logistics has procured boats as preparedness measure, and prepared a stand-by helicopter Special Operation to be activated in case required.

Inter-agency Logistics Capacity Assessments (LCA) planned
The Global Logistics Cluster Support Cell has identified 21 countries for Inter-agency logistics capacity assessments based on a level of various risks and influence and position in the region. The developed LCA tool was shared with Cluster participants last year and we would like to request participants to let us know in case you have similar initiatives going on in your organizations or can contribute in terms of expertise, information sharing and resources.

Logistics Cluster Information Meetings in Lyon, France
- Bioforce development Institute: The Logs Cluster support cell held presentation on the Cluster Approach for Bioforce students and trainers. Bioforce Development Institute is a centre for professional training and human resources management, specialising in International Aid. It is officially recognised by the French Government as a charity. With more than 20 years experience, Bioforce contributes in a unique way to International Aid and to preparing people to work in this challenging environment through international partnerships and a worldwide network of more than 2000 ‘old boys’, trainers, experts and consultants. The Logs Cluster support cell is now planning a conference on the Cluster Approach and the Leadership of WFP for Logistics to Bioforce students and trainers
- Groupement inter Armees des Actions Civilo-Militaires (Headquarters, French CIMIC): A presentation was given to CIMIC senior officers including: Introduction to UN reform and the Cluster Approach, The Logistics Cluster and the LRT Training.
- ATLAS Logistique (Handicap International/ATLAS): The support cell also met with Mr. Jean-Pierre DELOMIER, Director of ATLAS Logistique for general information exchange and engagement.
These meetings of information are included in the process of communication set up by the Global cell.

Upcoming Missions and Events
- The third Logistics Response Team training (LRT training) is scheduled to take place in Brindisi, Italy from 9 to 16 March, preparations are underway. Further details will be communicated shortly. Please start identifying potential participants in your organisations.
