Fundamentals of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) – Training Package

The Fundamentals of Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) training package provides a practical introduction to LCAs for teams involved in humanitarian supply chain planning, procurement, logistics, and environmental sustainability. The package includes a ready‑to‑use presentation and a facilitator guide designed to build a solid understanding of what an LCA is, why it matters, and how it can support greener decision‑making in humanitarian supply chain operations. This includes Project and Programme Managers as they are critical to identifying and requesting sustainable products and services in collaboration with procurement teams.  Management teams are also encouraged to learn more about LCAs and how the data can support more sustainable product purchases and delivery. 

Participants will learn the purpose, principles, and key phases of an LCA, and explore how this methodology can help reduce environmental impacts across the supply chain—from procurement and transport to asset management and waste disposal. The training highlights real-world applications, common challenges such as data availability or operational constraints, and practical opportunities for integrating LCA insights into programme and operational choices.

By the end of the session, users are encouraged to critically reflect on how LCA can inform more sustainable decisions and align with broader environmental goals across the humanitarian sector.
