The Logistics Cluster Cell in El Arish consists of 3 staff working on Logistics coordination and information sharing with the organizations on the Egyptian side, especially in terms of bilateral aid received. The activities are carried out in close coordination with the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC). Based on requests from the Municipality and the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), two staging areas at the El-Arish Airport and Stadium were established on 18 January to provide cargo consolidation services. This snapshot provides a description of El-Arish Airport, with a focus on the current support provided to the humanitarian community for the Gaza Emergency response.
Storage
The storage capacity at the Airport can cater to over 1,000 pallets.
Logistics Cluster - Staging Area
One of the Logistics Cluster staging areas is the airport. The activities taking place include:
- Marking of relief items that require transport services from the Logistics Cluster in Israel and Gaza.
- Segregation of cargo: medicine and medical relief items are separated from non-medical supplies.
- Palletization is not required for medical cargo.Palletization of non-medical cargo as per the set Israeli requirements. The maximum height is 1.6 m. The pallet itself should be either 120 cm by 1.0 m or 1.10 m by 1.1 m. Pallets need to be properly strapped, secured and plasticswrapped, with labels indicating the relevant description and gross weight (Note: goods cannot overflow the pallet size).
Opening Days:
As at 25 January, the El-Arish Airport is open every
day of the week.Hours of Operation:The core working hours are from 8:30 am until 5:30 pm. During this critical period and until further notice, the closing hours remain flexible dependent on the aircraft arriving into the Airport.
Special Requirements:
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) issued a decree on 15 January in relation to relief items received at the El-Arish Airport. The decree indicated that a 7-day notice to the Palestinian
Department within Egyptian MoFA was required from any organization transporting relief items by air.
