SUMMARY
- Khartoum International Airport may be closing daily from 10 April – 10 May during the hours of 9:00 – 17:00 hrs for major planned maintenance. The runway will be re-paved among other repairs and all air traffic will be suspended during this time.
- The increased security concerns on main supply routes in the Darfurs continue to create a challenging situation for transporters in the region. A number of trucks have been looted, detained and attacked. As a result it is becoming increasingly difficult to contract with transporters to carry cargoes into the Darfurs. The humanitarian community is searching for ways to improve security along these routes.
- A lack of suitable implementing partners has emerged in North Darfur, prompting OCHA and UNJLC to identify agencies that are willing to distribute NFI’s in non-GoS controlled areas. North Darfur is the only state in which distributions have been made directly to IDP’s through the local community leaders.
- During the past week, re-assessments of roads within West Darfur, north and south of the state capital El Geneina, have been carried out by UNSECOORD. Most roads have now been reopened for UN traffic.
