Cargo Fee Reduction
On 21st August 2003 UNJLC negotiated a number of concessions for humanitarian cargo at Roberts International Airport (RIA). Under the agreement, the management of RIA granted a 50% reduction in cargo handling charges for all UN and International NGOs on incoming flights. The new fee now equates to US$0.05 per Kilo. A copy of the letter confirming the reduction is available herewith.
In addition, UNJLC have also secured a waiver on cargo service charges for all UN agencies and International NGOs using Roberts International Airport.
WFP West Africa Air Service
A common air service for Liberia is operated by WFP. A LET 410 passenger aircraft that can accommodate 13 passengers with a light parcel cargo capacity is currently employed to link Liberia to the surrounding countries.
Flights take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday and link Monrovia with Abidjan, Freetown and Conakry. For the time being, the main operating base of the WFP West Africa Air Service is Abidjan. It is planned to move the aircraft and the base of operations to Monrovia as soon as the situation permits it. Bookings by the Humanitarian Community can be made by e-mail or through WFP West Africa Air Service offices in Monrovia (main office), Abidjan, and Freetown. Full details on schedules, procedures, and aircraft can be found on this site, along with details of airfields both in Liberia and in the surrounding countries.
On the 17th March, WFP added Zwedru in the regular schedule.
