Together with OCHA and SARC, the Logistics Cluster facilitated the movement of an Inter-Agency Humanitarian Convoy that on 23 June reached Jerud, a hard to reach location in Rural Damascus that had never been reached by convoy before.
A total of 24 trucks delivered around 634 mt of food, shelter, health and WASH supplies, including food rations, Plumpy Sup, hygiene kits, school bags kits, medicines, solar lamps, jerry cans, etc.
The trucks, loaded with the humanitarian supplies, left Damascus on the evening of 22 June and spent the night in Qutaifa, a village half way between Damascus and Jerud, and were joined by the UN staff the morning after, to complete together the final part of the journey.
The convoy reached Jerud around 11:30 am, receiving a very warm welcome as the trucks entered the town. The discharging operations went on until late in the evening, with the local population eagerly helping, despite the extreme heat and the fact that most of them were fasting for the holy month of Ramadan.
Representatives from the Logistics Cluster, OCHA, SARC, UNDSS, UNFPA, UNICEF, WFP and WHO supervised the discharge of the trucks and conducted brief assessments of the situation on the ground.
A total of 66 Inter-Agency Humanitarian convoys have been conducted so far in 2016, bringing much needed relief supplies to hard-to-reach and besieged areas in the governorates of Aleppo, Homs and Rural Damascus.
