Loading, dispatching, documentation handling, cargo stacking, inventory management, health & safety - these are just some of the issues that you have to deal with on a daily basis when you manage a warehouse. These and other topics were covered during a warehouse management training organised by the Logistics Sector in Maiduguri, Nigeria.
Through regular interaction with participating organisations and based on the user survey, the Logistics Sector in Nigeria identified the need to enhance warehouse management expertise among humanitarian personnel in Maiduguri, Nigeria.
In order to fill this gap, a training co-facilitated by experts from WFP and WHO was organised. The training took place on 26 April 2017 at the Common Warehouse in Maiduguri, managed by PUI on behalf of the Logistics Sector.
The full-day training was combined with a hands-on exercise on cargo stacking and space optimization. In total, 24 national staff members working in storage facilities (warehouse assistants, storekeepers, tally clerks) from 16 organisations were trained.
To date, the Logistics Sector organised four trainings for 87 participants. Due to the high interest, the Logistics Sector is planning to repeat the warehouse management training in the coming months and cover other topics based on the needs of the humanitarian community in Maiduguri.
