The Logistics Cluster Induction Training (May 25-27th, 2014)
From May 25th to May 27th 2014, the Logistics Cluster held its annual Induction Training at the Technisches Hilfswerk Bundesschule (Federal Agency for Technical Relief - THW) in Neuhausen, Germany.
The Induction Training was generously hosted by THW and supported by the German Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt). The Induction Training was conducted over three days and took the form of a desktop emergency simulation with the overall objective of educating our humanitarian partners on the role and function of the Logistics Cluster, and its responsibilities at both the Global and Field levels.
The participants hailed from 10 organisations including Agencies, NGOs and Standby-Partners around the globe: THW, Action Contre la Faim (ACF) Spain, Solidarités, World Vision, Welthungerhilfe (WHH), the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), the Danish Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), UNHCR and CANADEM.
The emphasis on enabling participants to use the Logistics Cluster’s key tools was incorporated into the simulation exercise, with three main goals to the training:
• For participants to understand the mandate and scope of the Logistics Cluster as a service provision entity;
• For participants to realise the functionality of the Logistics Cluster in an emergency context;
• For participants to acquire knowledge of the key tools used by the Logistics Cluster - the website, the Logistics Capacity Assessments (LCAs), the Relief Item Tracking Application (RITA) and the Logistics Operational Guide (LOG).
The benefits of this Induction Training are multiple: it encourages collaboration among logistics professionals in both an emergency and non-emergency context whilst providing participants with the tools to strengthen this dialogue and partnership.
