Preparedness Partnership
Together with the Dubai Humanitarian team, the Logistics Cluster co-hosted the 2024 Annual Preparedness Workshop at the Dubai Humanitarian Knowledge and Development Centre in Dubai Industrial City, The United Arab Emirates on 1-3 October 2024.
The 3-day event brought together over 60 humanitarian supply chain and logistics (HSC&L) professionals and practitioners from Governments, United Nations Organisations, International and National NGOs, Academia, and the Private Sector to review key milestones in 2024 following the Preparedness Roadmap identified in November 2023, exchange views and experiences in HSC&L Preparedness engagements and look beyond into the 2025-2026 outlook for attainable solutions together.
🎯 The 2024 Annual Preparedness Workshop in Dubai targeted to achieve the following outcomes:
- Enhanced understanding of different areas of logistics preparedness and recommended methodologies, e.g. for more localised and region focused Institutional Capacity Strengthening.
- Preparedness activity design 2024 – 2026 and review of lessons and recommendations identified.
- Strengthened engagement among the Preparedness Network members and partners.
Key Highlights
💡 The Preparedness Network emphasised its role on enabling the Preparedness community with various information sharing and coordination platforms at the global level to connect preparedness engagements and strengthen partnerships among humanitarian actors and partners.
💡 The WREC Coalition together with the Logistics Cluster Preparedness workstreams enhanced their partnerships and collaboration through integrated environmental sustainability lens in the preparedness activities.
💡 Emergency Supply Prepositioning Strategy (ESUPS) shared updates from the Stock Prepositioning Working Group with the community on the ECHO Stockpiling Project and a shared stock-data dashboard co-hosted by Logistics Cluster Information Exchange (LogIE), ESUPS STOCKHOLM and Dubai Humanitarian, showcasing collaborative efforts and partnerships among humanitarian partners to support local needs.
💡Centre for Humanitarian Logistics and Regional Development (CHORD), Kühne Logistics University shared series of the impact measurement studies including the logistics preparedness in Malawi and more country cases from the FBPP in the pipeline. An operational research of impact measurement in collaboration with Help Logistics and ESUPS on qualitative analysis of ESUPS’ relevance, effectiveness and sustainability was also officially launched in this workshop.

⚙️ Collaboration and Coordination: Collaboration among stakeholders like national and regional bodies, private sector, academia, and humanitarian organisations is vital to ensure a whole community effort and localised approach.
ℹ️ Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Strengthening: Workshops, roundtables, and meetings are essential for sharing best practices and learning from each other.
🤝 Engagement with Local and National Actors: Engaging local actors ensures sustainability initiatives are important. They should lead efforts with support from relevant stakeholders.
🏢 Private Sector Involvement: The private sector provides resources, expertise, and innovative solutions to enhance sustainability in emergency preparedness.
🌐 Regional and sub-Regional Approaches: Tailor strategies to specific regional needs. Maintain partnerships to strengthen national humanitarian logistics systems.
📣 Advocacy and Policy Support: Stronger policies and advocacy are needed to enforce environmental sustainability and raise awareness at all levels.
