Learning More About Minimizing Medical Waste: According to research conducted by WHO, it is estimated that 40-70% of medical equipment donated by humanitarian organizations is inoperable. The ICRC has developed a quick guidance video regarding the importance of working across programmes and procurement to ensure proper procurement to minimize waste of medical equipment.  This cooperation includes ensuring that maintenance and training are included in the contracts with suppliers and, when available, a service level agreement clause is included to reduce the risk of improper maintenance and help with reduction of wasted medical equipment in the field.
