Brussels Global Meeting

For three days in early November 2016, 52 senior logisticians from 40 different organisations met in Brussels, the heart of the European Union to take part in the second Logistics Cluster Global Meeting of 2016. First held over 10 years ago in Geneva, this biannual event brings together key humanitarian logistics actors and stakeholders, serving as a forum for strategic discussion concerning the further development of the Logistics Cluster, presentations on new initiatives and partners projects relevant to the field of humanitarian logistics. This meeting in Brussels, held at the ECHO Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) was opened by the ECHO Director General who highlighted the importance of logistics for all sectors of humanitarian response and the need to focus on increasing efficiency and performance. During the event, the working groups established at the last Global Meeting in London in May 2016 met for further discussions and updated attendees on recent activities. Key to the event was the unanimous decision to establish a Strategic Advisory Group (SAG), a new path for the Logistics Cluster which will give opportunities for partners to achieve greater influence in the strategic direction of the Logistics Cluster, increasing collaboration and participation.

Brussels Global Meeting

According to John Myraunet, deputy Global Logistics Cluster Coordinator “These meetings are crucial to achieve the Logistics Cluster's mission and the goals we've jointly set out with partners in our strategy. For me they are the highlights of the year and I especially appreciate the frank and open discussions we have around our core values of partnership and accountability. The establishment of a Strategic Advisory Group is an exciting new development from the Brussels meeting that would further strengthen the commitment to the core values.” It was a great pleasure to welcome colleagues, friends and members logistics humanitarian family in Brussels and we look forward to the next Global Meeting in 2017. Thank you again to all those who attended and supported this very successful event.
