Cargo stacking and space optimization

Loading, dispatching, documentation handling, cargo stacking, inventory management, health & safety - these are just some of the issues that you have to deal with on a daily basis when you manage a warehouse. These and other topics were covered during a warehouse management training organised by the Logistics Sector in Maiduguri, Nigeria.

Pirogues Deck Maroantsetra

When Cyclone Enawo struck north eastern Madagascar on the morning of March 7, travelling at 200 to 300 km per hour, the country and its people were prepared and a number of measures were put in place to limit losses.

However, the wind damages and the widespread flooding left behind by the cyclone severely affected the livelihood of the people of the north-east.

The response, led by the Government of Madagascar through the Bureau National de Gestion des Risques et Catastrophes (BNGRC), has been supported since the early days by the Logistics Cluster.

Adama Warehouse

In March 2016 the Logistics Cluster was activated in Ethiopia to support the Government and the National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) in their response to the worst drought in 50 years.

10.2 million people needed urgent relief assistance, so the Government of Ethiopia, with WFP, as the lead agency for Logistics Cluster, took immediate action to coordinate the logistics response and augment the available logistics capacity.

As the scale of the humanitarian crisis in Syria continues to require an extensive and sustained response from the humanitarian community to provide the affected population with critical cross-sectoral assistance, the Logistics Cluster continues to play a key role in facilitating inter-agency humanitarian convoys to UN-declared besieged and hard-to-reach areas.

The coordination of the Inter-Agency Humanitarian Convoys entails close collaboration with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Syria-based United Nations agencies and INGOs to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to areas that can’t normally be reached by single organizations due to access constraints....
