Global Meeting in Berlin04 November 2013
On 9th and 10th October 2013, the Logistics Cluster held its second Global Meeting of 2013, generously hosted by the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt).
The Global Logistics Cluster Meetings (GLMs) are held twice a year, and bring together senior logisticians from humanitarian organisations at the global level. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss recent Logistics Cluster operations, collect feedback from partner organisations on Logistics Cluster performance, present new initiatives and projects relevant to the field of humanitarian logistics, and since the Nairobi meeting of 2010 they have also served as a forum for strategic discussion concerning the further development of the Logistics Cluster.
The main objectives of the Global Meeting in Berlin were divided into two categories, strategic and operational.
Strategic objectives included: to confirm which Projects from the 3-year Strategy are to be undertaken in 2014 and to provide an update on the Projects currently in development - Logistics Capacity Assessments (LCAs), Relief Item Tracking Application (RITA), Lessons Learned (missions to Mozambique and Yemen), and the redesign of the Logistics Cluster Website.
Operational objectives included: to establish a clearer picture of key events and developments in Afghanistan in 2014 and to identify any logistics information and coordination gaps. On the second day, a panel discussion with three experts on Afghanistan was held; discussions focused on the impact that events in Afghanistan will have on the humanitarian logistics community in 2014.
The GLCSC would like to thank all participating organisations, particularly the German Federal Foreign Office for their generosity and to THW for their unceasing support of the Logistics Cluster.
